Advent is a season in the church calendar that starts today. It is a season of waiting for the birth of Jesus at Christmas, but is idle waiting what God wants of us? In preparation for the coming Messiah, we wonder together—what things can’t wait? To help us wrestle with this tension and dwell in the scriptures throughout the week, we want to invite everyone to take home a devotional booklet to use in this season.
Hope Tree Christmas Gifts
We have the chance to provide Christmas gifts for refugee children, people with disabilities, and foster care families. Grab a card from the tree in the hallway and return the gift and a gift receipt in an unwrapped and unsealed gift bag to the church office (check your card for the return deadline!).
Smarties Holiday Performance
Thursday, December 5 from 9:30-11:00am in the Fellowship Hall
Everyone is invited to a special holiday performance by the kids from Smarties (the daycare that shares space with us). Following the performance there will be coffee and treats to connect in community with folks from Messiah and Clairemont Oaks (the senior living facility down the street whose residents will be joining us). This is a great opportunity for us to support the kids at Smarties and connect with our neighbors.
Hagar's House Serving
Saturday, December 7 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Hagar’s House
Hagar’s House is an emergency shelter and assessment center for families with children experiencing homelessness. The program provides up to 90 days of shelter and services to support families as they seek to resolve their homelessness.
As a part of “Messiah Feeds,” our church has agreed to serve a meals at Hagar’s House. Please consider contributing and/or serving. A sign-up sheet is available on the bulletin board in the entry hall. Food may also be dropped off at the church earlier that day. If you have questions contact Harriet Barger at 770-845-4749 or Luretha Holloway at 770-378-0248.
Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Study Continues
Both a daytime and evening group are continuing to meet on select Wednesdays through February to help build a solid spiritual foundation for the New Messiah. If you’d like to be involved, talk to Pastor Josh. You are able to view the schedule here
2020 Estimate of Giving Cards
If you haven’t had the chance to return or complete the card to share how you pledge to commit your time, gifts, and financial resources to God’s work at Messiah in 2020, you can still do so! Bring the card with you on Sunday, return it to the church office, or fill it out online at
