Decatur Cooperative Ministry
Decatur Cooperative Ministry helps families facing homelessness settle into safe, stable homes and build healthy lives filled with peace, hope and opportunity. Messiah was one of the founding congregations for DCM, and we continue to support them financially, as well as connecting folks in our congregation with volunteer needs at DCM. We regularly serve meals at Hagar’s House (see below), and invite all to join us as we serve our community.
Hagar’s House is an emergency night shelter and assessment center with support services for women with children. The shelter offers at least 30 nights of short-term housing and has room for up to 30 guests.
While participating in the program, families receive thorough assessment and crisis intervention, two meals per day, laundry facilities, MARTA fares, computer training opportunities, employment counseling, a support group, and referrals to other services, such as free child care, legal assistance, and health care.
Families can be referred to Hagar’s House by another agency, schools, congregations, or any advocate. They may also refer themselves.

Decatur Emergency Assistance Ministry
DEAM serves more than 250 local families each month, providing critical assistance to ease hunger, prevent eviction, loss of heat, and loss of life-sustaining prescriptions. DEAM is run almost entirely by volunteers in space donated by local churches. Messiah contributes financially to DEAM, as well through donations of produce from our church garden during the summer months.
